This is just a personal blog for Jeff Moriarty, a resident of sunny Arizona. It contains all manner of opinions and detritus, and it is advised that you read at your own risk.
Biography & Background
Jeff Moriarty has a degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University, and has worked the spectrum from running his own software company, to assessing information security issues, to performing improv comedy, to managing social media communities for Intel. Jeff helped develop and implement the internal Social Media strategy for Intel employees, and worked as the Community Manager for the external developer site supporting Intel’s mobile products. He is extremely active in the Phoenix social media community, and currently works as a business consultant for new media/social media, and helping authors enter the world of digital publishing.
From a personal standpoint, Jeff loves connection people with ideas. He runs events like Ignite Phoenix to give people a chance to share their passions and see where it leads. He works on pranks and flash mobs with ImprovAZ to shake people out of their comfort zone and have fun. His interest in social media is not based in marketing, but as a set of tools to help discover new ideas and collaborate with the people behind them.
If you want to know something beyond that, just ask.
Other projects
Most people looking for me are really interested in one of my other projects or efforts. This is by no means a complete resume, but if you’re looking for my less personal activities,
Improv Media
Social media and new media consulting for individuals and businesses. You can only do so much planning for the online world, and past that you need to improvise. I combine my background in improvisation with my understanding of the online world into an effective but unusual approach.
Ignite Phoenix
Everyone has a passion, even if it sometimes takes a lot of coaxing to get them to talk about it. This creative, innovation driving event lets people from all across the Phoenix metro area take the stage to share what drives them with an audience of curious, intellectually hungry people. What happens next is up to them.
ePublish Unum
The world of publishing is changing, and anyone can now create an ebook and digitally publish themselves online. We offer classes and education for authors who want to take what they’ve written and leap into the world of digital publishing.
ImprovAZ
Life is the most fun when there’s a little bit of the unexpected. People get stuck in ruts, especially in a fairly conservative place like Phoenix, so this prank and flash mob group likes to shake things up a bit. We’ve done everything from live Where’s Waldo flash mobs to the annual No Pants Light Rail ride.
Social Media Club
Social media isn’t just a collection of tools, it’s a way of connecting and interacting with virtual communities around the world. I help lead the Phoenix chapter of Social Media Club, which is open to anyone to come and share and learn.
Phoenix Innovation Foundation
This non-profit group helps grass-root events and educational efforts in the Valley by taking on support roles so that creative people can do what they do best. We’ve supported events from Ignite Phoenix, to TechPhx, to Cupcake Love In, helping each one succeed in their core area.
Did I miss something?
I do a lot of odd things, so if there is something you were looking for that isn’t listed, or you want to connect with me in other ways, I’m pretty easy to find.
